Marriott Hotel: Sunday Brunch 2/9/2014
Stephanie invited several of us to brunch today at one of the two Marriott hotels here. Its quite an affair; there are four buffet areas, one an Asian Station, one Mexican, one India, and one Western, and then a desert station. Needless to say all are India influenced. Service is unobtrusive and gracious, they seem to bring some dishes to the table for sharing unasked such as plates of thin crust pizza and then later eggs Florentine. Those were excellent if you discount the white bagel-like bread things the perfectly poached egg and spinach was sitting on. I think there was a small dollop of some kind of sauce on top. When I say pizza don’t let your taste buds jump to what you know; there is no pizza like flavor here, it is more like a catsup like tomato base with some kind of cheese that is not mozzarella on top. I am not sure what other toppings were on a couple of them, I didn’t have any. Stephanie was sitting next to me and at one point she got a favorite of hers, a “fried pakora sandwich”. A pakora is a filled dumpling, often with a potato/onion spice mixture. This one had been put between bread and deep fried. There were other various veg and salad combinations, noodles and who knows what else. I tried a bean quesadilla with sautéed onions, but it was too salty so I didn’t finish it. The fruit was great. I also had a grape, fig and date and lettuce salad that I enjoyed.
Then there were deserts. So many to choose from, so I waited to see what others liked and ended up with mostly chocolate treats and one hazelnut mousse. I think I’ve had enough sweet for months. Sigh.
True to the culture, there was entertainment throughout, even at 1:00 in the afternoon. So loud that it was pretty much impossible to hear anyone other than the one sittingdirectly next to you. Also for some reason a mascot type made an appearance and took a tour around the room. The DJ/guitar player stayed throughout while the female vocalist left partway through, thankfully. We stayed until well past 3 and Bobby and I decided we really ought to get pictures of the DJ. So he reciprocated by dedicating the next song to Bobby: Country Roads, and of course came over to our table mid-way through…
Here is a clip of everyone in the dining room singing “Country Roads”.
After that we just all had to get up and dance. It was 4 in the afternoon by the time we left.
Sounds like a wonderful afternoon with friends! And, the dessert looks YUMMY! Thanks for sharing.
The chocolate was yummy, ate my fill!
